Those of you who’ve seen Bill Wilson’s work on various newsgroups will be delighted that he’s agreed to share some tips on his modelling here on Gn15.info. This first model is, I’m sure, a relatively straightforward first structure for a Gn15 layout - and the beauty is that it’ll fit in on pretty much any type of layout you’re planning.

I’ll now get out of the way and let Bill talk you through the model - EH

Here’s a photo of a little maintenance shed I built for the loco servicing area of my new ½n18 (1:24 scale) layout.

The corrugated material is some sheet plastic stuff (European - Faller or some such) I had in the parts bin. I originally had covered the shed with ½” scale sized pieces of corrugated material by Simpson, but this was too thick and didn’t look right so I stripped it off and replaced it with a solid piece (on each side) of the plastic stuff. It’s painted gunmetal, and slightly rusted.

As for the bits and pieces ….. Well, lemme see …… I have the model here in front of me ……. Okay, I built the bench, tool panel, and parts shelves. The large green drum back in the corner is a wooden 1:24th model, I scratched the pump. The trash can is a 1:35 55 gal drum which works out to a 35 gal drum in 1:24. The vise is a 1:48 (waaaay oversized!) casting, and the tools are a mix of 1:48, 1:35, 1:24. Essentially, junk box stuff …. If it looked right, I used it.

The figure in the photo’s by SLM (their URL’s on our Links page - EH).
