This little trammer was the result of a snowy weekend in January 2002. Trapped in the house, I foraged for a little Gn15 loco to build, and found a photo of an Atlas Type H Storage Battery Loco. A perfect basis for a freelance trammer!

One lovely freelance trammer

The chassis was stripped from a Bachmann HO scale Brill trolley car. The dimensions in the drawing below were adapted to fit this chassis. If you choose to build your own trammer, you”ll want to adjust things to fit the chassis you select.

The three major parts of the model are shown below. It’s mainly sheet styrene, with some .010″ brass parts (cut out with scissors and bent around a pencil), a few wooden shapes, and lots of straight pins.

The little trammer easily takes a 4″ radius curve, pulling a rake of skips using the link and pin coupler system shown in the photos. Who says Big Gauges have to be Large?

  • About Carl: Pittsburgh resident Carl Arendt's "Micro/Small Layouts for Model Railroads" website was most people's introduction to Gn15 modelling. His Micro Layout Design Gallery and Small Layout Scrapbook have spawned three successful books (so far).
