Something different from me”, writes Steve Bennett, “a kitbash of someone else’s kit. Thought you might be interested for your projects page.”

It is a kitbash of a Smokey Bottom Lumber Company On30 diesel kit to something much more gnifty. I started this over six months ago but a bout of flu gave me time to get it finished and have now just given it a lick of paint.

The first three photos - prior to painting - show quite well what is resin and what has been fabricated.

The parts list for this project is as follows:

Smoky Bottom On30 Diesel kit
Bonnet/Hood
Radiator
Chassis side frames
Sidelines parts
Brake Column (Gnat)
Seat (Midge)
Gear Lever (Flea + pin)
Throttle (Midge + pin)
Couplers (Midge)
Various
Light = Grandt Line O scale Galloping Goose light
Fuel filler cap = unknown 00 scale side tank filler cap
Radiator Cap = Turned down O scale coach roof vent
Bonnet door handles = O scale handrail knob + brass rod
Rivets = Grandt Line O scale .062 conical rivets
Bracing on buffer beam = O scale cosmetic fishplates
Exhaust = brass tube
Sandpipes = brass rod

The only trouble with this one is that the cab is just big enough for Jon and now Fred is jealous so I will have to build something for him as well :-)

The reaction to the Swamp Rat persuaded Steve to bring out a version for Gn15 called the Hornet.

Don Gage has, at Steve’s suggestion, sent in photos of his own kitbash to act as a comparison to Steve’s. Don says his model (the last two photos below) represents a more Americanised version of this little unit.
