Seemingly built to a different scale to the Perrygrove is this New Zealand line. Construction was started in 1975, by potter Barry Brickell shortly after he established a pottery workshop on a block of land he had recently purchased.
As a railway enthusiast he saw the practical and environmental advantages of having a narrow-gauge railway system through his rugged scrub-covered land to give all weather access to clay and pine wood kiln fuel. The line took 20 years to complete. While today’s Driving Creek Railway carries more passengers than raw materials, the ‘early years’ would be an interesting subject for a model - as Paul Napier has discovered in 1:34 scale (9mm:1ft).
Paul is working on some plans for the DCR’s working rolling stock for us - keep an eye on our projects and prototypes pages for more info.
You can read more about this railway, and see a lot more photos, at the Driving Creek Railway website.
